I have been delighted to discover Century Press! I ordered the Call of the Wild along with The Sun Also Rises. These books are made for the pure enjoyment of reading. Everything has been carefully chosen and beautifully executed for this edition. The silver stamped leather binding is beautiful, and the typesetting in two color letter press is both handsome and inviting. I am delighted with the illustrations and appreciate the added touch of a new introduction written specifically for this edition. If you enjoy fine press books, especially letterpress at a price point that is accessible, you will not be disappointed with The Call of the Wild by Century Press.
I can't wait to purchase my next edition from this publisher! Size, feel, appearance, and craftsmanship are all superb.
This book has some of the best production values I have ever seen. The letterpress work is particularly professional. The indentations of each word into the paper is so even, so clean and showcased that it is particularly in itself an art to call out and to be appreciated. This is not something that just happens on a letterpress. When the type hits the paper the depth of every letter is something which does not just regulate itself. Trust me, the printer who ran these books is a top artist in his own right. And speaking of Art, I have many editions of CALL OF THE WILD from first onward and more than a few other limited. This is the finest artwork that has ever graced London’s work. This is a book which is a treasure. Do you hear it? It is calling to you. Go wild!
I love the whole execution. The book is relatively small, but that makes it an excellent reading copy. I do put this in my bag and go sit in the park to read. CPs books want to be read. And treasured at the same time. That makes my time with them all the more valuable and memorable.
I got this book as a Christmas gift and cant overstate how impressed i was with the quality of the book. The binding was done perfectly. The type was a joy to read and the illustration perfect. Would recommend this company and this edition to anyone.
I just want to take a moment to say how much I like your edition of “The Call of the Wild.” This is my third Century Press book, and it is a pleasure to see how each book grows. I think this is the most beautiful volume of the three, with its gorgeous blue leather cover, light blue ribbon marker, matching blue snowflakes on the introduction page and the following title page, and the blue drop capital for each chapter - not to forget the blue type on the initial title page or the blue flame on the candle (nice touch!). The illustrations are extraordinary, like fine etchings. The letterpress printing is crisp and impressions obvious as you run your fingers over the text. As usual, the introduction gives a sense of history to the book and urges the reader forward to the story itself. Thank you for this impressive volume. Here’s to your continued growth and success!
As with previous issues this new one shines - the goat skin binding is great, the use of blue creates a really great contrast to the printed black. And the paper holds the impressing of the letterpress machine to give a great tactile feel. Lovely.
The Call of the Wild
Absolutely adore my copy of The Call of the Wild. Excellent communication and postage. The book it self is gorgeous with stunning illustrations and two toned letterpress. The introduction by Jonah Raskin was very informative and enjoyable. Overall immensely happy with this product and cannot wait for the next book!
This is a beautiful book that made a great gift.
Having been a bit disappointed with the condition of my copy of The Sun Also Rises I still held high hopes for Call Of The Wild, one of my favourite books from childhood, and I was not disappointed. The blue leather is beautiful, lovely binding and the print is nice and consistent throughout with not too much bite on the page. The two colours are subtle but really add to the quality overall. The interior artwork is really striking and it is all together an incredibly nice edition. It's quick becoming one of my favourite books in my (admittedly small) collection.
The only concern I had is it was just wrapped in tissue paper and a stiff envelope and that does not feel like a lot of protection for a book coming all the way to the UK from Canada (via Amsterdam) then sitting in the rain all day outside my front door. Especially given the cost of international shipping. Arrived in imaculate condition thought so I'll just be stressed when I inevitably order whatever Century Press are putting out next. They keep getting better.
I love the pops of color added to the letter press design! It’s another gorgeous design and execution. Customer service is also too notch. I love the way this collection is growing on my shelf and can’t wait to see what they do next!
The introduction was exceptional
Century Press continues to impress with Call of the Wild. The fit and finish is excellent.
Still some issue with inconsistent inking but definitely improved since the last book. Everything else is quality.
